Marmorland Herd

The Marmorland herd is located in Central Estonia and owned by Aberdeen Top Genetics OÜ (hereinafter ATG). This is a family company with one paid employee.

The story of the herd dates back to 2006 when we bought the first 37 heifers and 2 young breeding bulls (Tonley Black Dart and Cairnton Kaytwoo) from the Rosemount herd in Scotland, owned by Mr Alex Sangler. In the following year we bought an additional 35 heifers from the Rosemount herd and this was the start of the Marmorland herd as it is today.

The company currently has 100 animals, incl. 60 suckler cows and 4 breeding bulls. We use 420 ha of leased land of which 200 ha is cropland, where the company grows organic cereals, peas and industrial crops. We produce all the necessary forage ourselves.

The Marmorland herd is a breeding herd. During our 11 years of operation, we have sold over 50 breeding bulls in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Belarus. Heifers bought from us have started a total of 9 new breeding herds, 3 of these abroad. We have so far managed to win all major exhibitions in Estonia where we have presented our young bulls. In breeding we use only the genetics that the top Scottish breeding herds use. Recently, we have started focusing on the quality of producing a young herd more than in the beginning. We have introduced the term “maternal lineage” in our breeding, something we did not think anything of 5–6 years ago. Since 2016 we have invested in launching our own embryo programme and we also started an AI programme. All our animals are subject to Estonian and Scottish performance testing and have pedigree certificates from both countries. The company’s work has been awarded with the titles Best Estonian Beef Cattle 2009 and Best Estonian Beef Cattle Breeding Herd 2014.
